Underground
cities are often written about in books. Two books that I enjoyed are
Gregor the Overlander
by Suzanne Collins and City
of Ember by Jeanne
Duprau. In Gregor,
the city underground is very modern, shiny and new. In the City
of Ember it's old –
fashioned, worn out and scary. If I were to write a book, my
underground city would be fancy and similar to Gregor
the Overlander.
Gregor
the Overlander is a great book. He and his sister, Boots, fall in
a hole in their laundry room. Cockroaches guide them to a underground
city. The city looks like a big city with lots of people who are pale
as snow and have purple eyes. These people have lived underground for
as long as they can
remember. They can only see with torches. The buildings are as tall
as thirty feet in the air and they are completely engulfed by
darkness.
City
of Ember is a good book. The city underground is falling apart.
The lights are burning out. Two kids try to find a way out using a
map the builders gave them. The city is made up of a lot of houses,
next to each other, with people running from one place to the next.
So there are a lot of people crowed together. They are surrounded by
darkness. They can only see from a few light bulbs, which are growing
dim.
If
I had a city underground it would be like a regular city: tall
buildings, houses, jobs and people. There would be a way out in two
hundred years time. No more, no less, either! My city would be called
the Glass City because the tallest building is made of glass. It is
surrounded by darkness. They would use light bulbs and candles to
see. There would be a president there to help everything stay stable.
As
you can see, the places in City of Ember and Gregor the
Overlander are completely different. My own city would be kind of
different. Underground cities are scary, cool and very fun to read
about. If you are interested, you should read these books.
Hey, I know of another book with an under ground city! It is called Homeland, the first book in the Drizzt books. It has the underground city of Menzobaranzan, where the drow (Dark elves) live.
ReplyDeleteCool, I think I'm going to read it, sometime.
